A Little Gesture’s School Feeding, besides providing a nutritious meal, is an essential tool to improve school attendance rates and performance. At Sta. Luísa de Marillac and S. Vicente de Paulo schools, where we have 215 and 240 underprivileged children, respectively, we provide daily warm and nutritious lunches for only £6 per month (per child)
This initiative not “only” reduces hunger during classes, but also promotes gender equality, preventing girls from having to skip classes to cook at home. A small investment, a great impact, since in many cases this school meal is the only one during the day for c. 2.300 students.
Besides this, we distribute seeds by the several families on a bi-annual basis, providing produce and opportunities. The photos depict the beginning of the cycle with the families sowing seeds and, a few months later, harvesting their produce. The kits besides securing a well-balanced diet, also create a source of income with the opportunity of selling produce in the local market.
Launched in 2013 (SLM) and 2022 (SVP), these programs, with an annual cost of £144 533, represent a significant effort for A Little Gesture. Nevertheless, we believe that investing in children’s education and nutrition is investing in the future.
