The Santa Luísa de Marillac HIV Day Care was inaugurated this year, at Santa Luisa de Marillac School, in Manjangue. ALG has been developing an extensive community support programme in Santa Luísa de Marillac, since 2011.
The new centre offers a fully customized programme to HIV/AIDS infected children, during the day, securing their adequate nutrition and, constant medical assistance. The project aims to relief local poverty and provide a dignified and healthier childhood to seriously ill children. With a capacity for 50 children, it opened with 23 children on its launching year. The facilities are located in the surroundings of the Santa Luísa de Marillac School, an underprivileged community where our sister-charity, UPG Portugal, already sponsors 123 of the poorest children. In parallel to the Sponsorship programme, ALG also finances Projects in Santa Luísa de Marillac such as School Meals, After-classes Support, University Scholarships and Family Huts.
This is ALG’s most recent project and for a total budgeted cost of £24’300 (£41 per child a month) in 2014, it requires full dedication to secure an adequate multi-annual financing.
