Christmas Calendar 2024: Day 19

Last November something very special happened in Chókwè. Amid smiles, applause and a lot of emotion, the new classrooms of the São Vicente de Paulo Community School were inaugurated. This event marked the beginning of a new stage in the education of the children of this community.

It was attended by important figures such as the District Administrator, the President of the Municipal Council, the Daughters of Charity, community leaders and the management of the school and ALG. Everyone was there for a common reason: to celebrate the future of these children and the importance of a space that welcomes them with dignity!

During the ceremony, inspiring speeches recalled the transformative power of education. Educators spoke with emotion about the impact of the new classrooms on the quality of teaching. The headmistress of the little school shared the challenges she had overcome to make this dream a reality, while parents, with eyes sparkling with hope, expressed the importance of investing in education as a bridge to a better future.

The highlight was undoubtedly the children’s performances: poetry, traditional dances such as the Xigubo, and songs full of energy and joy. Every word, every movement and every rhythm echoed the community’s cultural identity, showing that education goes far beyond the classroom walls.

These new facilities represent more than bricks and mortar: they symbolise hope, dignity and opportunities for these children. They now have a safe, modern and welcoming space where they can learn, grow and dream. The whole community came away strengthened from this day, aware that education is the greatest investment in the future.

This was a moment of unity, celebration and commitment. The new classrooms are the start of a journey that will transform not only the present of these children, but also the future of our community!
