In the Banhine underprivileged rural communities, we found two extraordinary, spirited, and hopeful young girls who want to shape their own destiny. Graça and Amélia, sisters united not only by blood, but also by the dream of a better future.
Almost a decade ago, 15- year-old Graça entered the UPG Portugal Sponsoring Program where she found not only support for her studies, but also help for building a more promising future. Five years later, Amélia, her 13-year-old sister also joined this hopeful journey.
Both attend school with assertiveness – Graça in the 7th grade, and Amélia in the 6th. They are already thinking ahead, and Graça dreams about being a nurse, while Amélia is eager to be a teacher. These ambitions reflect the desire to make a difference in the lives of the ones surrounding them and to break the poverty cycle.
Raised by a fighting mother who is a household assistant, the family relies upon their farming plot to obtain cassava, corn, and peanuts.
They are sweet and well-behaved young girls dedicated to their studies, who dream with a different life. We will be here to support them in their dream.
