ALG After-School Support is a real learning hub that complements school education and tries to support and motivate underprivileged children and youngsters throughout their educational path. This initiative, which includes a snack, has two main goals:
- Actively support the learning process to improve academic performance.
- Prevent early School Abandonment, promoting study habits, and incentivizing the interest in learning.
After-School Support began in 2011 at S. Vicente de Paulo School, with 51 children. In the following year, we decided to expand the initiative to Sta. Luísa de Marillac School, benefiting 83 youngsters. Acknowledging the impact of this program, in 2022, we expanded again to another location, this time to Escolinha Flor da Infância, including 26 children, and we implemented a pilot project exclusively for the 1st grade for 30 children (15 ex pre-school and 15 under UPG Portugal Sponsoring Program).
Due to this program’s success, this year we extended the project to the 4th grade, directed to 30 students.
After-School Support takes place from Monday to Thursday, between 13h and 15h, and relies upon the guidance of Local Technician, Victor Manave. The main activities include the clarification of doubts, assistance with homework exercises and explanation of contents developed in the classroom.
A Little Gesture is committed to provide an enriching and inspiring learning environment for children, contributing to their academic success and personal development.
