Day 5. At the HIV Centre, we became stronger together!

After the temporary closure of several projects, our team feared a distancing from children and their families, as well as a difficult regular contact with them. Surprisingly, a positive consequence of the quarantine and the recurrent States of Emergency was an increase in communications with children’s households as ALG became a safe “port of call”.

After the temporary closure of several projects, our team feared a distancing from children and their families, as well as a difficult regular contact with them. Surprisingly, a positive consequence of the quarantine and the recurrent States of Emergency was an increase in communications with children’s households as ALG became a safe “port of call”.

In the HIV Day Care Centre, this positive development was clearly noted by our in-house Psychologist Ácio. Throughout the restricitions imposed by health authorities and social distancing, Ácio visited all 38 families of the Center and called them regularly to strengthen communication and an open dialogue. The result was actually a stronger bond with most families that came to our team for moral support, advice on the pandemic and general protection.

Today it is common for children’s guardians to more openly share their opinions and present their points of view in our regular distributions, overcoming their general shyness. A family spirit and sense of belonging that are hopefully here to stay!
