Day 6: Winners Projects empower communities!
On stage, a group of girls sponsored by A Little Gesture, known as the ALG Winners, surprised everyone in attendance. Under the guidance of their mentor Miliona, these young women performed a play that captured the attention of the carers, the children and all the spectators, demonstrating the power of artistic expression to tackle serious issues in society.
The theatre explored three forms of violence – physical, psychological and sexual – using stories that reflect common but harmful practices in communities. The aim? To educate, raise awareness and show that there are ways to break the cycle of violence.
Miliona, who leads the UPG Winners, explained that the girls were inspired by real situations to create the play. ‘We wanted to show the impact of violence that is often seen as normal. But they’re not. It’s important that these girls, and everyone who watched, know that no one should accept this as part of everyday life,’ the mentor explained.
The ALG Winners have shown that, through education and empowerment, it is possible to change mentalities and inspire new generations to build a fairer and safer society for all!
